Chelsea president Bruce Buck is expected to make £ 30m with the club’s £ 5.25bn sale to Todd Boehly, while director Marina Granovskaia is said to raise £ 20m as it was finally sanctioned. the huge acquisition.

The Premier League confirmed that the massive deal had been approved Tuesday night with the government’s rubber stamp on Wednesday morning, allowing American billionaire Boehly to complete his record move.

The government wanted to make sure that Roman Abramovich would not benefit in any way from the acquisition, and in a statement, Whitehall officials said they were satisfied that the proceeds would not go to the Russian.

The billionaire has been plagued by crippling sanctions since the beginning of the year due to his close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the government taking a hard line after his invasion of Ukraine.

Two of the key members of Chelsea’s board of directors who have been helping drive sales will benefit greatly now that it has passed.

The New York Times claimed that Buck and Granovskaia would wrap up about £ 10 million ($ 12.5 million) with the sale, with management fees amounting to £ 50 million.

But the Times claims that the couple will earn much more than that, with Buck saying he would take £ 30 million for his role at the end of the inauguration and Granovskaya earning £ 20 million.

Buck, 76, who has been linked with Chelsea since 2004, will join Boehly on the new board, although it is unclear what involvement Granovskaia will have at the club in the future.

Granovskaya has been a trusted confidant of Abramovich for the past decade, leading the load of player transfers and negotiating big deals while the Russian owner has been unable to stay in the country.

Earlier this week, the final details were being resolved. Abramovich has a Portuguese passport, which means that the acquisition also had to be approved by the authorities there.

The ministers were in talks with their Portuguese counterparts and the European Commission to offer them the guarantees they needed to approve the deal.

A government statement said on Wednesday: “Last night, the UK government reached a position where we could issue a license to sell Chelsea Football Club.

“Following the sanction of Roman Abramovich, the government has worked hard to ensure that Chelsea Football Club can continue to play football. But we have always been clear that the club’s long-term future could only be secured with a new owner.

“After extensive work, we are now satisfied that the full profits from the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned person. We will now begin the process of ensuring that the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting the victims of the war.

“Today’s steps will secure the future of this important cultural asset and protect the football fans and the community at large. We have been in discussions with relevant international partners about the necessary licenses and we thank them for their full cooperation.

Chelsea may be looking forward to next season after months of uncertainty

The Premier League, meanwhile, approved the deal on Tuesday and said: “The Premier League Board has today approved the proposed acquisition of Chelsea Football Club by the Todd Boehly / Clearlake Consortium.

“The purchase is subject to the Government issuing the required sales license and the successful completion of the final stages of the transaction.

“The Board has applied the Premier League Ownership and Directors Test (OADT) to all future directors and has taken the necessary due diligence.

“The members of the Consortium who acquire the club are affiliates of Clearlake Capital Group, LP, Todd Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

“Chelsea FC will now work with the relevant governments to obtain the necessary licenses to complete the acquisition.”
