The lowest olfactory test score was “significantly” associated with the development of a probable dementia, the researchers wrote.
They also found that a change in olfactory test score was associated with a change in cognitive function test score.
“Olfactory dysfunction precedes the development of probable dementia in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes,” they concluded.
