Dr. Embree is named the winner of the Alan Ross 2022 Award

We are proud to announce that Dr. Joanne Embree is the winner of the Alan Ross Award of the Canadian Society of Pediatrics 2022.

Established in 1976, the Alan Ross Award is the most prestigious honor given by the Canadian Society of Pediatrics. The award recognizes lifelong excellence in the fields of pediatric research, education, health and advocacy.

Dr. Embree is a professor in both the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health and the Department of Medical Microbiology, Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. She is the former head of the Department of Medical Microbiology and a member of the Senate and Governing Council of the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Embree’s research, clinical practice, and administrative functions in pediatrics have been aimed at preventing infections in children and minimizing the effect of the disease on those who become infected. He participated in the collaboration between the University of Manitoba and the University of Nairobi’s studies on HIV transmission. Interventions based on the results of those studies that showed the high risk of HIV transmission from human milk to infected mothers has helped reduce the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies, thus substantially decreasing the prevalence of children. with AIDS.

Dr. Embree has been the medical director of infection, prevention and control at the Children’s Hospital since 1990. In this role, she has helped coordinate the hospital’s response to the 2003 SARS threat, the pandemic flu. H1N1 in 2009, the Ebola virus in 2014 to 2016. and more recently, COVID-19 from January 2020. He has also contributed his experience to guide development at the local, provincial and national levels through committees. advisers to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Manitoba Health, Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Since 2017, she has chaired the Expert Working Group on Infection Prevention and Control of the Public Health Agency of Canada.
