Thousands of easyJet passengers have canceled flights today in what is believed to be a system-wide system failure.
The Independent estimates that at least 200 flights have been landed in chaos, with easyJet blaming “computer system problems”.
easyJet said this afternoon that the problem had already been resolved, but that “there may still be some disruption in the next few hours”.
An airline spokeswoman said: “We advise customers to travel with us to continue to consult Flight Tracker to see the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and customers may request compensation in accordance with regulations.”

“Unfortunately, they have caused some cancellations today, and while we expect to operate most of our remaining flight schedule, some may still experience some disruption in the next few hours.

“We did Inverness in Gatwick this afternoon”
Amid today’s cancellations and delays, an easyJet passenger welcomed the arrival of the airline’s largest base, London Gatwick, 15 minutes earlier than expected, to be exact.
The passenger was on a flight from Inverness. Their planes had left Gatwick minutes before ground operations failed in computer systems.
The plane turned around in Inverness normally. He left a few minutes late, but made up for the time, and with far fewer easyJet flights to Gatwick, usually congested, he arrived earlier than expected.

“No explanation and no help from the ground crew” – the fury of the passengers when the summer visitors were stranded abroad
EasyJet customers are turning to social media to complain about being stranded overseas due to the airline’s computer complications this afternoon.
“Thank you @easyJet for canceling our flight from Prague to Manchester 2 hours earlier! We had to pay for a hotel tonight, another flight tomorrow and all our expenses. No explanation was given and no help from the crew of land, “wrote David Keogh.
“Best job @easyJet leaving more than 200 people stranded until Monday in Pisa due to a canceled flight,” wrote Twitter user Phil.
Ceitidh wrote: “Hello, my sister is stranded at Palma Airport with two four-year-old children and cannot return to Glasgow after her flight has been canceled. Please can I advise you what to do? to do to get home?
Many messages touched the airline’s lack of communication.
Suzanne Seyghal wrote: “Dear @easyJet, have you tried to turn it off again? Welcome. Yours, one of the thousands of passengers unhappy with the ruined holiday plans … communication board let me know, the information was definitely missing today …) “

Could my easyJet seat be given to someone whose flight has been canceled today?
At today’s Ask Me Anything event, Simon Calder of The Independent was asked how easyJet’s cancellations could affect the airline’s flights over the weekend.
One reader asks, “We have to fly with easyJet on Sunday. Is it possible for those who have canceled their flights today to be offered our seats? Our flight is completely booked.”
Simon replies: “A very good question. The answer is no. Once someone’s flight is canceled, go straight to the end of the queue for later departures.
“However, as explained in the article here, easyJet should do whatever it takes to get them to their destination on the original day of the trip or as soon as possible, including the purchase of tickets from rival airlines. “.

“Extraordinary Circumstances” message “sent by mistake,” says easyJet
An easyJet official said a message claiming that Thursday afternoon’s cancellations were caused by “extraordinary circumstances” – thus invalidating any claims for compensation for the affected passengers – was “sent by mistake”.
The spokesman said: “The problem with computer systems has been rectified. Unfortunately, the ‘extraordinary’ was sent in error.
“We consider that the cancellations related to the problems of computer systems are not extraordinary. We will re-issue customer communications to those who have received incorrect information. “

Can the airlines offer me a replacement flight days later?
This week, several readers reported that easyJet offered them a replacement flight several days after the day the airline canceled its flight.
Independent travel correspondent Simon Calder says: “You have the right to travel on the original day of departure, if there is any commercial way to reach your destination. You must give the canceling airline the opportunity to arrange a new flight (or, for destinations such as Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam, a Eurostar train).
“It’s understandable that airlines want to keep passengers on their own services, but there are clear limits. The Civil Aviation Authority says that if the canceling airline has another flight on the same day, it can book again (and offer meals while you wait).
“If the canceling airline cannot or does not fulfill its obligation, you should buy a ticket and then claim it.”
