Federals aim to tackle airport bottlenecks in time for summer travel season

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra says the federal government is working with groups on the ground to resolve the “bottlenecks” of air travel in time for a busy summer.

“We are identifying these areas. It’s very important to me that we act quickly and that we are ready for the summer season, “he told CTV News Channel’s Power Play on Friday.

Alghabra added that the Canadian Air Transport Safety Authority will return to full-time staff by the end of June after retiring an additional 400 employees.

“They are almost close to full employment,” he said, “they will be at full employment, which was before the pandemic.”

The news comes amid reports of long queues at airport security checkpoints and border checkpoints.

Alghabra said the increase in travel is leading to “blockages” in all aspects of travel.
