An alleged dispute over COVID-19’s disguise in court in 2021 led to a Vancouver police officer breaking his leg and accusing a former city news presenter.
A former Vancouver television presenter accused of assaulting a police officer in a lawsuit over wearing masks has been warned by a judge to ask for a lawyer, after firing several.
Marrett Alexander Green is accused of injuring the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) Const. Cain in an assault, assaulting this officer while they were engaged in their duty and attempting to take a weapon from an officer.
The charges relate to a fight on January 26, 2021 between a man who allegedly refused to wear a mask when he entered downtown Vancouver courts. The court ruled at the time that it required the use of the mask.
Police were called when the man refused to comply.
In the subsequent incident, an officer broke his leg.
“That didn’t make sense. That was reckless. That was unnecessary,” VPD spokesman Const. Tania Visintin said at the time.
Green appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Jennifer Oulton on June 3.
He told her he had fired his lawyer, which led the Crown prosecutor to say that Oulton Green had not hired lawyers.
“It’s just bouncing from lawyer to lawyer,” the Crown said.
“You should definitely look for a lawyer,” Oulton said.
Green was a CKVU-TV news presenter from 1994 to 1999.
