Girl rushed to hospital after being mauled by dogs in south-east Melbourne

A young woman was rushed to hospital after being attacked by two dogs in Melbourne’s south-east.

Emergency services were called to Bellevue Drive, Berwick, at around 8am on Wednesday after reports that a 12-year-old girl and her dog had been attacked by two other dogs.

The attack is understood to have happened outside Berwick Fields Primary School.

The girl was taken to Casey Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries to her upper and lower body.

According to the girl’s father, Mick Garratt, an off-duty paramedic stopped and helped until an ambulance arrived.

“I owe you a beer,” he wrote on social media.

The young woman underwent surgery yesterday for her injuries, according to the Facebook post.

Garratt also said her dog was rushed to the vet by a bystander and underwent life-saving surgery over six hours.

“Our dog… is now on the mend, hopefully no complications,” she wrote.

City of Casey safer communities manager Daniel Osborne said the council was investigating the incident but the two dogs believed to be responsible for the attack had been caught by council officers .
