Google Drive finally supports the basic keyboard shortcut options for copying and pasting

Can you believe that Google Drive has been around since 2012, and yet for ten years the search engine giant didn’t find time to work and support basic keyboard shortcuts for moving files to cloud storage?

As they say, it’s worth it later than ever. Google is finally presenting them next week.

From now on, users will be able to use Control + C, Control + X, and Control + V to copy, cut, and paste content, files, and video clips from one folder to another, or move them across multiple tabs. It also applies to Macs, but should be used instead of the Control key.

In addition, users can also capture a link to the file and its title by copying a file, allowing users to easily paste them into a document or email.

That’s not all; users can open files or folders in a new tab using the Control + Enter keys so they can easily view multiple files at once.

Google said full deployment of the feature will begin on June 1 for both Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts when they use Google Chrome.

This means that users can only move Google Drive files with shortcut keys in the Chrome browser.

They will not work on other browsers such as Microsoft Edge or Apple Safari. There’s no word why the latter two don’t support keyboard shortcuts, but many expect Google to finally make it possible sooner or later during the year.
