A chain of pubs gives away free pints of beer after being forced to abandon plans to charge 6 pence each.
Greene King had planned to sell beer at the same prices as in 1952, the year the queen was crowned, to mark the platinum jubilee.
But the chain said it was forced to abandon the promotion because it was not allowed to offer combs at that price under licensing laws.
He has now announced that he will instead give a pint of Greene King IPA to every customer today for nothing.
Greene King said: “One of the ideas we had was a promotion to 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy a pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today, the same price as it was in 1952.
“We thought it was a great way to celebrate this great occasion and we were delighted with the response from customers.
“However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now give the first pint of Greene King IPA for free today, as we now understand that it is not allowed under licensing law to charge 6p.
“Just remember to use the keyword ‘1952’ and see if your local pub is bidding and more details at greeneking-pubs.co.uk/my-local. Hello everyone.”
