People with type 1 diabetes need to carefully monitor what happens to their body because they cannot produce insulin, which is vital for maintaining blood glucose. An imbalance can be dangerous and damage blood vessels, nerves and kidneys. There are, however, systems to help control and administer insulin, and they have been tested in people with advanced kidney disease.
