“I haven’t slept in the last two nights”: Kitchener family says bricks thrown out of window

A Kitchener family has expressed concern over a recent vandalism and is frustrated with the response they have received from the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

The surveillance video shows someone throwing what look like two bricks in the back window of his Saddlebrook Court home on Tuesday morning.

“We’re a little on the sidelines,” Dikshit Soni said. “Above all [as] we don’t even know who did it, why they did it. What was the motivation? “

Soni and his family were at home at the time of the incident, but he heard nothing and only arrived at the scene the next morning.

He said his computer, a camera lens and a desk were damaged during the incident and broken glass scattered around the room.

“Luckily she wasn’t sitting there,” Soni said. “I usually work late and this is the place for me.”

The window has now been closed, but the owners say it will be a few weeks before they can fix it.

“I’m scared, I’m paranoid to say the least,” Soni’s wife, Megha Khatri, said. “I haven’t slept in the last two nights.”

The couple has two young children, one five years old and the other two, and they are worried about their safety.

“I will not send my children because, I don’t know, the person who did this will come back and do it again,” Khatri said.

The incident was reported to police, but the family said officers did not go through their home or follow their case.

“The most amazing thing is that the most worrying thing is that what’s not so comforting is that I was expecting at least the police to come down,” Soni said.

CTV News contacted the Waterloo Regional Police Service, but declined to be interviewed. However, they provided an email statement confirming that the incident is under investigation.

It says, “Depending on the type of incident / complaint, our Frontline Support Unit may receive the report by phone, send it online, or an agent may attend the site. There is a criterion for each type. and each report is different (the incident is ongoing, there is video, the suspect is known, there is evidence, there are injuries, etc.) “.

“I know there’s only so much the authorities can do, but at least something can be done?” Soni asked.

He expects police to patrol his neighborhood at night as a way to deter further incidents.

“It’s not a good feeling to be at home and look uniform … to be on the edge even for the slightest noise of the wind … what’s going on outside.”

The family said they wanted a little mind at home.
