Apple today sowed the second beta of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 to developers for testing purposes, and the new betas introduce new features and perfect some of the changes that Apple made with the first release of iOS 16.
Lock screen photo wallpaper customization
When customizing a photo on the lock screen, there are two new DuoTone and Color Wash overlay options to change the look of your photo.
Editing wallpapers
If you set a photo as your wallpaper, Apple informs you that you can use pinch gestures to adjust the crop image.
LTE backups
IPhone and iPad users can back up their devices using a mobile LTE connection, as well as a 5G or WiFi connection. Apple introduced support for 5G backups in iOS 15 and has expanded it to LTE on iOS 16.
Astronomy wallpaper location
The Astronomy wallpaper now shows a green dot to let you know where you are. The dot appears in the Earth wallpaper options, but does not stay in the wallpaper at all times and is only visible when the wallpaper is edited. These dynamic wallpapers are also available on older iPhones.
Editing wallpapers
In the Settings app, the Wallpapers section is set to make it easy to customize the different wallpapers that you set up for the home screen and lock screen. There are new “Customize” options in the lock screen and “Home screen” options to make it clear that there are settings that can be adjusted.
When choosing your look, there is also an option for “Set as pair of wallpapers”.
Apple Cash and Apple Card
Apple Cash’s “Send and Request” interface has been changed to the second beta of iOS 16. It is now a single combined button instead of two separate buttons, and the balance is shown more clearly.
For the Apple Card, the “Weekly Activity” section also lets you know how much Apple Cash you’ve earned during the week. t
Screenshots
There’s now a “Save to Quick Note” option when saving a screenshot, which joins the Save to Photos, Save to Files, and Delete screenshot options.
Remove lock screens
It is now easier to remove a lock screen by swiping up.
SMS filtering
According to Apple’s release notes, developers can classify incoming SMS messages from unknown numbers into 12 subcategories with transaction and promotion categories to improve organization.
For Indian users, Messages supports SMS event extraction. Event and appointment messages are shown as suggestions from Siri and are also presented to users in the message thread and in the calendar inbox.
iPadOS 16 Stage Manager
On OSiPadOS 16 beta 2 on compatible iPads, there are new Stage Manager settings in the “Home screen” and “Dock” section of the Settings app. Show options for hiding recent apps and hiding the dock while using Stage Manager.
Unwanted message reports
For some US carriers, Messages in iOS 16 beta 2 extends the “Report spam” feature to allow users to report unwanted SMS / MMS messages to operators.
Translate
The Translate app now supports Turkish, Thai, Polish, Indonesian, and Dutch.
HealthKit API
For developers, HealthKit training APIs support multi-sport workouts with activities that include swimming, cycling, and running.
IOS 16 beta 2 also adds HealthKit support for the new training metrics that Apple announced at WWDC. Training metrics include running power, ground contact time, vertical swing, running speed, and stride length.
