Jeremy Rockliff Jeremy Rockliff Free Flu Vaccines Available at Pharmacies and GP Clinics

June 2, 2022

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister of Health

The Liberal government in Tasmania is taking further steps to ensure that every Tasmanian has a chance to receive their flu shot.

From Monday, June 6, flu shots will be free at GP clinics and pharmacies for a four-week period through Wednesday, July 6.

This program is in addition to our state flu vaccination clinics that will continue to offer free vaccines.

Earlier this week, we announced that starting this weekend, children as young as six months old will be able to get vaccinated against the flu at Tasmanian vaccination clinics.

Tasmania has distributed nearly 200,000 flu vaccines this year, making it the most vaccinated state nationwide as a percentage of the population. Nearly 70 percent of Tassmanians over the age of 65 have already been vaccinated against the flu.

But now we are starting to see our flu rates rise and in the last week, the rate has more than doubled in Tasmania.

During the week ending Sunday, May 29, 134 cases of influenza have been reported to the Department of Health and, to put it in perspective, it is higher than the same date in 2019.

That is why it is important that we continue to increase these rates, especially for taxpayers over the age of 65, where there is still 30% to receive a vaccine, as well as 83% of children under the age of five who have not yet received the flu. tir.

As a reminder, there will be free flu shots for:

  • 10 more years – at participating pharmacies
  • 6 more months: GPs and state community clinics

If you haven’t already, make an appointment now to take advantage of this program and make sure that GPs and pharmacies can request proper stock.

And don’t forget that if you need to receive a COVID booster, you can do it on the same day as the flu shot.

State clinics open this weekend:
