Alberta Prime Minister Jason Kenney says he will sound the alarm about the federal government’s emissions reduction plan when it meets with Canada’s prime ministers over the next two days.

Kenney says the reduction plan is “a cake in the sky,” calling it a “ridiculous” goal without a proper plan for its implementation.

The prime minister, who made the comments at the annual Calgary Stampede breakfast, says the implications of the plan would be devastating for Alberta in the same way that the world needs more energy.

The federal plan released earlier this year aims to limit emissions from the oil and gas sector to achieve zero net emissions by 2050 and reduce methane emissions from oil and gas by at least 75 per cent. one hundred in 2030.

The prime ministers meet for the first time with the leaders of the indigenous national organizations today in Victoria before starting the meeting of the Federation Council.

BC Prime Minister John Horgan, host and chairman of the board, has said health funding will be a focus of the agenda, specifically for the federal government to increase its spending share from 22 to 35 percent to help improve the system.
