Hello and welcome to the coverage of Emma Raducanu’s second round match at the French Open against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Raducanu showed courage and determination on Monday when he beat Czech qualifier Linda Noskova, 17.
“Honestly, I have no expectations of myself. You know I’m very happy to be able to compete here after Rome,” he said.
“I’ve struggled a lot to be here in this second round and I’m looking forward to trying to stay as long as possible.”
Today he faces Sasnovich, with whom he convincingly lost to Indian Wells last year in what was his first tournament after winning the US Open.
Injuries have disrupted Raducanu’s season so far, but he has gone to the gym to try to increase his stamina.
“I think he’s definitely getting better. Something I’ve been doing this week and all last week, I was doing a lot in the gym.
“Long before training, after training, just keeping all the muscles activated. It’s something I probably haven’t done before, training through tournaments.
“Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either.
“I think the players certainly know more about me and would have seen me play more, while last year, maybe if it was just a random ranking, they wouldn’t have researched that much. [in] or he was looking at me, how he would play.
“To counteract that, I’m always looking to improve in every way.
“Also just adding elements of unpredictability the way it is.”
