A highway has been cut off after a collision. The M62 near the Eccles interchange is completely blocked with no traffic.
The collision happened almost an hour ago and cut off the highway in both directions. The eastbound road to Manchester remains closed, but traffic has cleared westbound to Warrington. A man has been taken to hospital, GMP says.
A statement from the National Highways website reads: “The M62 in Greater Manchester is closed eastbound between J11 (Birchwood) and J12 due to a serious collision. All emergency services are currently in the place, including the Northwest Highway Police Group.National Highway Traffic Officers are present.Also on the scene assisting with traffic management.

“Please note that the link road from the M60 in a clockwise direction to the M62 in a westerly direction is also closed due to this incident.”
Eastbound traffic is being diverted by the solid triangle diversion symbol, according to National Highways, and motorists are being asked to leave the M62 on the J11 and join the M60 / interchange. M602. Traffic officials say the collision and closure have caused significant delays on adjacent routes, with the M60 congested from the 17-12 junction of the road counterclockwise, and setbacks to the ‘M61.
