Man fighting for life in hospital after attempted murder

A man fights for life in hospital after an assassination attempt in South Lanarkshire.

The 40-year-old man was seriously assaulted around 3pm on Sunday on Greenhill Road in Rutherglen.

He was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.

Investigators are treating the attack as a homicide attempt.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door inquiries for more information.

Detective Sergeant Vicky Murray said: “This incident happened in the middle of the afternoon and I’m sure people will have heard or seen something.

“I am appealing to the local community to contact us with any information they may have, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please pass it on.

“We do not know the reason for this attack and it is essential to find out who is responsible for this crime.

“Anyone with information is asked to call the Scottish Police via 101, citing the 1944 incident number of 12 June 2022. Please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where you can provide information anonymously “.
