Met Office issues a storm warning for the Southwest

Storms, heavy rain and lightning could hit Devon and Cornwall on Saturday. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering the entire region.

The notice lasts from midnight until 10 a.m. Saturday. It would mean a wet start to the Jubilee celebrations throughout the region.

The Met Office says that while many places will remain dry, there could be storms. Where they collide, in the early hours of Saturday they will bring heavy rain and lightning to some places.

A spokesman added: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings due to flooding, lightning, hail or strong winds. When there is flooding or lightning, there is a possibility of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services

“Sudden showers and flooding can lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that there will be power outages and other services will be lost to some homes and businesses.”

A yellow weather warning has been issued

They added: “Saturday will be quite cloudy with showers or possibly longer periods of rain at times. Occasional showers with possible thunderstorms, especially at first. It may become drier and brighter in the evening.

“It will be mostly cloudy with rain showers or showers until Sunday and Monday. Sunny and scattered showers on Tuesday, and feel nice under the sun.”
