No one was injured in the 5-alarm fire at the Etobicoke recycling center

No one was injured after a five-alarm fire broke out on Wednesday evening at a massive global waste business in Etobicoke.

At around 10:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a recycling depot at 86 Shorncliffe Road, near Dundas Street West.

Upon arrival, the crew encountered a very large fire that was 200 feet from the perimeter.

The fire was treated as a five-alarm fire at its peak and about 100 firefighters responded.

Teams installed overhead water towers to attack the fire and eventually forced entry into the building once the fire was under control.

The fire is believed to have started inside the back of the building.

Since then, the fire has been extinguished and teams are still at the scene to check for hot spots.

There are no reports of evacuation from the building.

Queen Street from Vansco Road to Shorncliffe Road is closed for investigation.
