One person died after a fire in Barrie on Saturday morning.
Firefighters responded to a fire in the Boys Street and Dunlop Street West area shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday. The initial call was a grass fire of some kind.
“After further investigation, we determined that there was an impromptu fire in a wooded area that appeared to be coming from a camp,” Barrie fire chief Cory Mainprize said. “At that time, firefighters extinguished the fire and, tragically, there appears to have been a loss of life.”
Authorities say there is no risk to public safety.
The fire has been extinguished.
The Ontario fire commissioner has been called in to investigate, along with Barrie police.
