Ontario reports COVID numbers for Victory Day Monday, Tuesday

Ontario reported 890 people hospitalized with COVID on Tuesday, with 157 in intensive care. On Victory Monday, it was reported that 879 people were hospitalized with COVID, with 152 in the ICU.

Due to the holiday weekend, the figures were not available on Victory Monday, so two sets of data were released on Tuesday of the two days.

Last Tuesday, there were 1,345 hospitalizations with 165 in the ICU, showing a weekly decline week after week.

According to the latest hospitalizations, 58% were admitted for other reasons, but tested positive for COVID-19. For those in the ICU, 31% were admitted for other reasons.

Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 619 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 668 on Monday, although this is an underestimation of true widespread virus transmission due to eligibility for PCR testing. The total number of provincial cases now stands at 1,296,786.

The death toll in the province has risen to 13,164, with a new virus-related death added on Tuesday and two deaths on Monday.

There are a total of 1,269,275 recoveries, which is about 97 percent of known cases. Resolved cases rose 1,238 from the previous day and 1,138 from Monday’s report.

As for vaccinations, of the population aged 12 and over, 91.3% are fully vaccinated. The coverage of the first dose stands at 93.1%. The third dose of immunization is 56.9%: more than 7.3 million Ontarians have received a booster vaccine.

For young children aged five to 11, the coverage of the first dose is 56.6% and 36.1% are fully vaccinated.

The province administered 2,775 doses on the last day and 4,692 doses on the previous day.

The government said more than 12,500 tests had been processed in the past 48 hours. 3,290 tests are currently being investigated.

The test’s positivity rate stands at 10.5 percent, up from 10.3 percent a week ago.
