Police are investigating the theft of armed cars in Scarborough

Toronto police are investigating an armed robbery in Scarborough overnight.

Officers responded to reports of a car theft in the Morningside and Sheppard Avenue area early Thursday morning.

Police say a suspect with a firearm stole a vehicle. It is unknown which vehicle was stolen.

No injuries were reported.

Police have not released any other details.

The city is currently facing an eruption of car thefts, as there have been more than 60 so far in 2022, surpassing the total number of car thefts in 2021.

Last week, Mitch Marner’s Range Rover, a Toronto Maple Leafs striker, was stolen at gunpoint outside a movie theater in Etobicoke. He was not injured in the incident.
