Police have named a man who died in an alleged altercation in Hartlepool.
Officers have confirmed that the 59-year-old man died after an incident in the York Road area of the city on Friday as Mark Davison of Washington. A Cleveland police spokesman said Mr Davison’s family had asked them to post a photo and a tribute to him and said: “Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”
The family said: “Mark was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend who will be greatly missed. He is in the thoughts and prayers of his family and friends in the UK and Gambia.”

They added that Mark was “a character bigger than life that was taken too soon.”
A man and a woman, both in their forties, were arrested on suspicion of murder as a result of the events. The man has been released on bail while the investigation continues, and the woman has been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of York Road and Gainford Street on Friday at 2:10 p.m. after what police described as an altercation. Mr Davison was treated by paramedics at the scene but was pronounced dead.
Witnesses spoke of his surprise at his death and described seeing a “rage” incident shortly before.
