Recapitulation of how the Northern Ireland Centennial Parade takes place in Belfast

People from Northern Ireland lined the streets of Belfast today for the Northern Ireland Centennial Parade.

Police said approximately 100,000 spectators watched the parade while 25,000 participated with 130 bands and brothers from across the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Ireland.

The parade was scheduled to take place in 2021, but was canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

The event started in Stormont shortly after 1pm and participants headed to Belfast Town Hall.

The route will continue to City Hall via Upper Newtownards Road, Lower Newtownards Road, Bridge End, Queen Elizabeth Bridge, Ann Street, Victoria Street, High Street, Castle Place, Donegall Place, Donegall Square North and Donegall Square West.

It was delayed by about an hour, the parade was over and traffic in the city returned to normal after 8 p.m.
