A 56-year-old Victor Harbor woman has died after falling from a horse at the Riding for the Disabled Equestrian Center in Hindmarsh Valley this afternoon.

Paramedics rushed to the Southern Fleurieu Riding for the Disabled property on Lipizzaner Drive, near Victor Harbor, shortly after 1 p.m., but the organization’s volunteer died at the scene.
SafeWork SA staff and Victor Harbor detectives attended the scene.
A forensic report will be prepared.
Horse riding for people with disabilities offers horse therapy through activities that include riding lessons and competitions.
Volunteers from the organization have been consoling each other this evening.

A statement from the organization said the death of the volunteer “had been a huge shock to our organization and to the united GDR community.”
“We would like to thank the paramedics who came to the scene quickly for their professionalism and compassion,” he said.
“It couldn’t have been in better hands; unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.”
Advice is offered to other volunteers.
“There were no participants in the program at the time of the accident,” the statement said.
“We are in touch with the family and will provide more updates to our community as needed.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding during this difficult time.”
