The NFL, as expected, is nearing a decision on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson.
At the May property meetings in Atlanta, Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that things were moving to a conclusion.
“I can’t give you a timeline,” Goodell told reporters through Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot. “We are about to end the investigation period and then it will be managed by our disciplinary officer.”
As we have explained, the disciplinary officer, hired and paid jointly by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, will make a decision on the discipline, after the NFL proposes a punishment. Goodell then handles any appeal unless the disciplinary officer decides not to impose any discipline.
The clock is ticking. It’s time for the NFL to start the process. It looks like it will happen sooner rather than later.
