Gold Coast’s strong outing against North Melbourne has been aggravated by a devastating injury blow, with gun defender Lachie Weller appearing to have suffered a serious lower leg injury at TIO Stadium.
Weller was running towards the 50-meter arch on his side before landing uncomfortably when he planted his leg.
The 26-year-old immediately grabbed his knee and hit the ground in frustration.
Weller was the replacement.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Suns coach Stuart Dew said the team fears Weller will break the LCA.
“That’s what fear is and that’s how it seemed,” he said.
It is consistent with fears Fox Footy had the team when Weller fell in Saturday’s game.
“He’s got a knee, isn’t he?” Dwayne Russell said in a comment Fox Footy.
“Oh my God. That’s horrible. They’ll have to take out a stretcher, which means a stop in play. A big round of applause but the first signs aren’t good.”
“That looked really bad,” added North Melbourne legend David King.
“He knew it right away. How sad. Expect the best. I had a great day and it’s such an important part of this half-defensive counterattack machine. I hope it’s okay.”
“Unfortunately, it’s an action we’ve seen before, no,” added Hawk Jordan Lewis, a four-time prime minister.
“It simply came to our notice then. You’re right, it’s very important to them. Cross your fingers and wait for it to be okay.
He was substituted out of play and replaced by Jeremy Sharp.
Weller has been one of the Suns’ most enduring players since he was transferred from Fremantle before the 2018 season.
The 26-year-old has three goals this season with 225 rebounds in 11 games.
