Journalist asks Ted Cruz why gun killings are a US problem (Image: Sky News / AP)
Ted Cruz was confused and came out of an interview while a reporter was confronting him and asking him why mass shootings are an American problem.
The Republican senator was at a vigil alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott, remembering those lost during the recent Robb Elementary School shooting.
Cruz, who received $ 176,274 (£ 140,000) from the National Riffle Association until 2019, then clashed with Sky News journalist Mark Stone.
He cornered Mr. Cruz and asked him if it was time to change gun laws in the United States.
Between 2009 and 2018, there were 288 school shootings in the U.S.; the next highest number was in Mexico, where there were eight.
Both Ted Cruz and Gov. Greg Abbott have been staunch allies of liberal gun laws in the U.S., which Democrats say feed the problem of mass shootings in American schools.
They did not receive a cold reception in Texas, in part because of the state’s traditional support for gun ownership, which is enshrined in the Second Amendment.
When Mark Stone asked him why American exceptionality was “so horrible,” Cruz replied.

He told Sky News: “You know, I’m sorry you think American exceptionalism is horrible. You already have your political agenda. God loves you.
After Stone repeatedly said, “You can’t answer that,” Cruz turned and said, “Why are people from all over the world coming to America? Because it’s the freest, most prosperous, and safest country on Earth. be a propagandist.
‘You know, it’s easy to go into politics.
“Inevitably, when a violent psychopath kills people, if you want to stop the violent crime, the proposals that the Democrats have, none of them would have stopped it.”

“There are 19 parents who will never get to kiss their son tonight.”
The Texas senator left the interview and left the scene.
Republicans like Governor Abbott do not see gun laws as the problem.
Instead, he blamed the massacre on the mental health of gunman Salvador Ramos.
In a later interview, Cruz echoed that sentiment when he spoke to CNN, saying, “Inevitably, when there’s such a killer, you see politicians trying to politicize it, you see Democrats and a lot of people in whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. ‘
