Texas Elementary School Shooting: Live from Uvalde, Texas
Authorities say nineteen children and two adults were killed after an active shooter was reported at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The shooter also died, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
The gunman has been named Salvador Ramos, 18. Abbott said Ramos carried out the mass shooting alone before being shot dead by law enforcement.
Ramos was a student at Uvalde High School who lived in the small town 130 km (80 miles) west of San Antonio, according to Abbott.
President Biden told the nation it was time to “turn that pain into action” and change gun laws after the massacre.
“Why are we willing to live with this butchery?” he told the White House. “Where in the name of God is our backbone, have the courage to face it and stand up to the [gun] lobbies? “
The shooting forced the school to close. The students were taken to St Willie Delon Civic Center where they will be reunited with their parents.

Sarah Sanders calls for Texas shooting to boost Republican anti-abortion agenda
Sarah Sanders, who won the Republican nomination for governor of Arkansas on Tuesday, called the shooting dead of at least 19 children in a Texas elementary school a “crude and humiliating reminder of how precious life is.”
“Every life has a value and the most vulnerable among us should be those for whom we are fighting and protecting the most,” Ms Sanders said.
“I can assure you that in my administration, this is exactly what we will do. We will make sure that when a child is in the womb, he is as safe as in the classroom, in the workplace, in the nursing home, because every stage of life has value. “

The NBA-Warriors coach calls for gun control
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr called for tighter gun control after the Texas school shooting.
A visibly affected Kerr, who has been a stricter advocate of gun laws, said he would not discuss the Eastern Warriors Conference Finals game against the Dallas Mavericks.
“Any basketball question doesn’t matter …” he told reporters. “In the last 10 days, we have murdered black seniors in a Buffalo supermarket, we have murdered Asian religious people in Southern California.
We now have murdered children at school. When will we do something? I am very tired of going up here and offering my condolences to the devastated families out there.
Steve Kerr
He also criticized lawmakers for blocking efforts to advance arms control measures.
“Do you realize that 90 percent of Americans, regardless of political party, want background checks, universal background checks? 90 percent of us,” Kerr said.
“We are held hostage by 50 senators in Washington who even refuse to vote for him, despite what we want the American people to do. They will not vote for him because they want to maintain their own power.”

Texas Attorney General calls for teachers to be armed
A few hours after a school shooting claimed at least 15 lives in Texas, the state’s attorney general called for what he said was the only possible solution: arming teachers.
“The reality is that we don’t have the resources to enforce the law in all schools,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said. “Law enforcement needs time, no matter how well prepared they are, no matter how good they are, to get there. So having the right training for some of these people in school is the best hope.”
