Tom Hanks has come out as an unexpected animator for the BBC’s Springwatch.
The long-running nature series was previously aired on BBC One before Hanks appeared on the BBC One current affairs series The One Show.
After cutting the channel of Springwatch hosts Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan, the Toy Story star intervened.
“Can we say how great the BBC is?” Hanks said. “You will not receive this live every night in the United States.
“That’s just another thing.”
Viewers shared the clip of Hanks’ reaction on social media, and many endorsed his view of the BBC.
“You’re right, you know,” wrote critic and announcer Scott Bryan. “British television is one of the best in the world every day.”
“How nice to see @tomhanks enjoying the Springwatch clip on @BBCTheOneShow,” another viewer wrote. “Real sweetness !!!”
Michael Gravesande of BBC News wrote: “Let’s just say it’s going to be a complete lack of obligation if it doesn’t hit the BBC’s track as soon as possible.”
Others labeled Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries in the clip in response to the government’s much-criticized plans for the BBC’s future.
Hanks appeared on The One Show to promote Elvis, a biographical film of Elvis Presley starring Colonel Tom Parker.
