“Get it together Australia”: Some fans reacted furiously when the new winner of The Voice was announced. WARNING: Spoilers.
WARNING: Voice spoilers below.
The winner of 2022 The voice of Australia It has been announced that a $ 100,000 prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia will be taken home.
And the winner is … Lachie Gill, from Rita Ora’s team. Melbourne’s 24-year-old former Physical Education teacher said he “never, never would have expected” to win, before playing his new single winner. Lost time.
The four remaining contestants who fought in Sunday’s final were Thando Sikwila of Keith, Jordan Tavita of Guy, Lachie Gill of Rita and Faith Sosene of Jess. There was no weak link between them, and the coaches praised every performance.
But Lachie’s victory was not without controversy on social media, with some viewers complaining that she was chosen as the winner among the top four.
That’s how it all went …
The performances
Faith Sosene was first, offering an emotional rendition of Christina Aguilera’s ballad Beautiful – and the judges were full of praise, with Guy Sebastian declaring it “the best song we’ve seen in all this competition.”
Lachie Gill sang an orchestrated and surprisingly rocky version of Cyndi Lauper’s classic Time after time. He said he was “super nervous” but the coaches ate him – Jess Mauboy revealed Time after time it was his favorite song in the world, and he said his performance did not disappoint.
“It was a great twist on such a classic love song: you made it modern and great,” Rita Ora told him.
Thando earned a standing ovation with an exciting performance of Andra’s song of the day Get up – which Keith Urban called a “perfect full circle moment” for the young mother.
“What you represent is very important to me as a woman,” Rita Ora told her.
Finally, Jordan broke Benson Boone’s emotional ballad Ghost town – a performance that made coach Rita Ora cry: “It was amazing … it was so special,” she said.
Each contestant also teamed up with their coach for a special duet during the grand final.
Confusion about the final vote
Some fans were confused last week, as public voting was open before the grand finale, but previews of the episode were already shown on television. How could fans vote if the ending had already been filmed, some viewers wondered?
News.com.au may clarify that the grand finale had been pre-recorded, but it was promised that viewers’ votes would “completely determine the winner” because alternative endings had been recorded.
This means that each of the four finalists had to represent their winning (and losing) moment, and the final that was broadcast was determined by the public votes. So while viewers watched Lachie win on Sunday night, hers was one of four filmed reactions.
