The publication The Judge declares that Young Thug is a potential “danger to the community”, denies the bail application that first appeared in Consequence.
A judge in Fulton County, Georgia, denied Young Thug bail on Thursday (June 2nd). After an hour-long hearing, the rapper, who was arrested last month for gang activities and excerpt charges, was considered a potential danger to the Atlanta community and witnesses in the case.
As reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Young Thug (née Jeffery Williams) pleaded not guilty during the hearing and his attorneys promised to hire a team of out-of-service law enforcement officers to oversee his activity if allowed him to enter house arrest. Williams’ attorney, Brian Steel, said the rapper was also willing to wear an ankle monitor, undergo regular drug testing and hand over his cell phone and passport.
Both Machine Gun Kelly and 300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles spoke on behalf of Young Thug during Thursday’s hearing. “I really think all this, it’s not him. This isn’t the Jeffery I know. The Jeffery I know would give me the clothes off my back,” Liles said (via Billboard). Liles also said he was “willing to step back [Young Thug] personally and professionally ”.
However, Judge Ural Glanville was eventually influenced by prosecutor Don Geary, who claimed that other members of the gang had admitted to him that they feared that Young Thug would retaliate against them. As such, Young Thug will remain in jail until his trial, which is currently scheduled for January 9, 2023.
Young Thug was arrested on May 9 and charged with one count each of involvement in street gang activities and conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Corrupt and Influenced Organizations Act (RICO). The arrest was part of an indictment of 56 charges against his YSL (Young Slime Life) collective that prosecutors allege are affiliated with the Bloods. Shortly after his arrest, Young Thug was charged with seven other felony charges after a police raid on his home uncovered firearms and drugs.
