The discovery of a single overturned kayak floating in the Nanaimo River on Tuesday afternoon led to an unsuccessful search for the occupant.
A woman who came forward to claim a lost kayak that was found overturned in the Nanaimo River this week apologized to the first officials who spent time looking for her.
Allison Wasserman, who called Nanaimo’s RCMP to let them know that the kayak was theirs, said she had kayaked with her family around noon on Sunday, but that she was in trouble and left. turn.
The Wasserman was bruised and cut and headed for the shore, leaving the kayak stuck under some log bars.
The group decided to leave the kayak and return when the water was expected to fall on Wednesday. But before that could happen, the kayak turned upside down.
“Now I realize I should have reported it,” Wasserman said. “However, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart and a sincere apology to all the first to attend.
The discovery of the kayak near Nanaimo River Park had sparked a search that included Nanaimo’s RCMP, Cranberry’s volunteer fire department, paramedics and a medical helicopter.
“I’m very embarrassed, but at the same time very grateful to know that there are lifeguards trained to respond to these kinds of situations,” Wasserman said. “I’ve learned a valuable lesson.”
