A teacher’s unhealthy relationship with a minor student was revealed after the girl’s mother found vile texts on her phone. Andrew Oldfield, 35, began teaching at Horn’s Mill Primary School in Cheshire four years ago.
He had sex repeatedly with his victim, who was not a student at the school, and WhatsApp messages surprised him. Oldfield was jailed for four years after admitting four counts of sexual activity with a child.
David Watson, tried at Liverpool Crown Court on 23 October 2020, said the woman confronted Oldfield after seeing the correspondence. The mother was so preoccupied with the “intimate” messages that she read that she woke up her sleeping daughter and asked her about them.

The annoyed girl made her mother promise not to contact the authorities, but he went to the Widnes police station the next day, where he confessed that he had been kissing, hugging and touching the child. He later confessed to having sex with the boy.

Mr Alan Meyrick, acting on behalf of the Secretary of State, said: “Mr Andrew Oldfield is banned from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach at any school, sixth grade university, youth accommodation or nursery in England. In addition, in view of the seriousness of the allegations found against him, I have decided that Mr Andrew Oldfield will not be entitled to seek reinstatement of his eligibility to teach. “
