Police have charged three men following an investigation into human trafficking between Toronto and Edmonton, Alberta.
Toronto police said a 17-year-old girl from Edmonton was “recruited and transferred to Toronto to work in the sex trade after the age of 18.”
The girl is said to have been trafficked in Toronto for eight days in different places and also forced to sell drugs. The money he earned during that period was handed over to his traffickers, according to police.

Police said they began their investigation on October 25, 2021.
The following month, on November 10, 2021, Toronto police arrested Kalid Mohamed, 28, of Toronto, and charged him with assault that resulted in bodily harm and two counts of sexual assault.

On November 11 of that year, police arrested Yonathan “Yogi” Wolde, a 30-year-old from Toronto.
He is charged with 14 different offenses, including trafficking in persons under the age of 18 for recruitment, advertising sexual services, and assault with bodily harm.

Months later, on Friday, May 27, 2022, police arrested Abilaziz Mohamed. The 32-year-old man from Toronto faces charges of human trafficking for exercising control and assault causing bodily harm.

Toronto police said they were worried there would be more casualties.
“Police want to encourage all affected people to come forward and report human trafficking to the police,” the force said in a statement.
“Investigators want to make sure everyone has access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to prosecute.”
