Nick Kyrgios will agree to wear the “black hat” in his “bad role” as he tries to eliminate British wildcard Paul Jubb at Wimbledon on Tuesday night (AEST).
On paper, the Australian star should briefly make his first-round opponent, but Kyrgios takes advantage of his own experiences to avoid any complacency as he seeks his first individual Grand Slam title.
“I feel like I can put myself very well in his skin,” Kyrgios said.

“I was once that kid who got a wildcard at the Australian Open. I felt great just for being close, absorbing everything, the media, the fans, everything, the hype. I know how it will feel.Get out there and play freely, nothing to lose.
“Being in that position, I loved it. Every time I went out there was a disadvantage. I had no pressure. So I know it’s going to be a dangerous game. It’s not always easy to be the favorite, you just have to sweep someone… Never. I’ve had matches like that and it didn’t go well. “
Kyrgios retired from the Mallorca Open last week due to an abdominal injury, saying he did not want to aggravate the problem before Wimbledon.

Kyrgios hates Wimbledon’s iconic feature
But he stated that he was happy with his preparation and that he felt physically and mentally prepared to shoot.
“I know I just have to get up emotionally on the waves because the audience will obviously be behind the venue. I’m used to wearing that kind of black hat, the villain role. I’ll accept it. I’ll just go out there and play the game.
“If you look at the results I’ve had in the last two weeks, if I stick with my weapons, the results say I should win pretty easily. I know that won’t be the case. I have to be pretty. Focused.”
In Stan Sport’s Grand Slam Daily, two-time Grand Slam semifinalist Wally Masur said he considered Kyrgios to be the fourth favorite to win Wimbledon.
“Nick has it all and what amazes me about Nick is that he has had these long layoffs because of COVID and for various reasons, but he just sang again,” Masur said.
“He seems to have only found the middle and with the strength of this amazing service, possibly the best service in the men’s game right now because of the strength of the second service, he just got back into the song. He’s a confident character, he gives support. he himself on the grass and this year could do a lot of harm “.
