A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after he plowed his car into a community event, killing one person and injuring 17 others, before driving off and fatally striking a woman in a nearby town, Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday. a press release.
Leading the news: Community members in Berwick, Pa., held an all-day fundraiser Saturday to benefit the victims and families of a deadly house fire near Nescopeck earlier this month, WNEP-TV reported.
- Shortly after 6 pm, a driver drove his car into the crowd of people gathered at the event. Police arrived at the scene to find 1 person dead and 17 injured, according to the press release.
- A short time later, police received a call that a man in the Nescopeck area of Luzerne County had been seen physically assaulting a woman. When state troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered the woman was dead and the man had been taken into custody by city police, according to the release.
The Big Picture: Pennsylvania State Police identified the man in custody as Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes, 24, of Nescopeck, and said he is a suspect in both cases.
- The suspect was arraigned Sunday on two counts of criminal homicide and was denied bail.
