One person was killed and eight others were injured in a shooting on Saturday in a Phoenix mall, according to Phoenix police.
The shooting took place around 1 a.m., police said. They responded to several shooting calls in the 10th Avenue and Hatcher Road area, and people fled the parking lot of a mall when officers arrived, police said. Several victims were located both at the scene and in the vicinity.
Police said the murdered person was a 14-year-old girl, according to KPHO, a CBS affiliate. Of the eight injured, two women suffered life-threatening injuries, KPHO reports.
Detectives say the investigation is preliminary, but said there was a large crowd gathered at a mall party when an altercation sparked a shootout. The shooting, police said, took place inside and in a nearby parking lot and driveway.
During a press conference, the sgt. Andy Williams said a group of about 100 people were in the mall at the time of the shooting, KPHO reported.
