2 climbers injured, 1 missing after avalanche, rock fall in Rocky Mountain National Park

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. – Two climbers were injured and rescued and one remains missing after a report of a rock fall and an avalanche in the Rocky Mountain National Park on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. near the Dreamweaver Couloir on Mount Meeker. Other climbers in the area witnessed the event, according to park officials. They said there are three climbers, two men and a woman.

After arriving at the scene above 11,500 feet in winter conditions, teams found a woman with minor injuries. Hours later, around 2 pm, a man was released by a helicopter lift system and taken to the Rockies Medical Center. Its status is unknown.

The third climber, a man, remains missing where the avalanche occurred and teams are scouring the area for clues to the victim. Several agencies are assisting in the search, the park said in a press release.

Avalanche danger increased to moderate levels Saturday as the snow surface warms, wets and cannot join, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
