WAYNE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – Chester County emergency crews say two people were injured when a private jet crashed in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
The small single-engine Cirrus 22 plane landed at around 3:30 p.m. Davids Golf Club at block 800 Radnor Road.
Investigators said a male pilot and his wife were traveling to Wings Field in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, from Fort Myers, Florida, with a fuel stop in South Carolina.
The plane reportedly suffered a mechanical failure and the pilot was able to locate an area open to the runway near hole 14 to make an emergency landing.
Views from Chopper 6 showed the plane crashing near some trees along the route.
The pilot and passenger were able to get off the plane with the assistance of witnesses who were on the golf course, authorities said.
Action News spoke with aviation expert and former Navy pilot John Gagliano. He says if there was a day for this to happen, it was Wednesday.
“Actually, on a day like today, where there is beautiful weather and not many clouds around. There is an 85% chance that you will walk away from something like this,” Gagliano said.
He also says that when he hears that the plane lost power, it means that the engine failed and this could have been due to several factors.
Gagliano says skill is needed when it comes to an emergency landing.
“You have to put the plane in position to get to a clear area. So there are a lot of things that can go wrong and everything has to go perfectly and well. That’s what this pilot did. He made every choice. apparently good because he left, “Gagliano said.
The couple was taken to Palio Hospital as a precaution.
The FAA will begin its investigation to find out exactly what went wrong.
No golfer was injured in the incident.
