WHEN IS IT?

The men’s Wimbledon final will be held at 11pm AEST on Sunday night.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD

Djokovic and Kyrgios have only played twice and the previous two meetings, won by Kyrgios in sets in a row, were five years ago in American hard court tournaments.

Kyrgios emerged victorious in the quarterfinals in Acapulco (7-6 7-5) and in the round of 16 in the Indian Wells-1000 (6-4 7-6)) – and the Australian did not lose a single in neither party.

There are only two more players against whom Djokovic has played several games but failed to get a win: Jiri Vesely and Marat Safin who, like Kyrgios, have a 2-0 lead over the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

WHAT’S IN GAME?

The prestigious honor of becoming a Wimbledon men’s champion, of course. Kyrgios aspires to win his first Grand Slam and Djokovic his 21st and seventh Wimbledon title.

The champion will receive £ 2,000,000 ($ 3.5 million) in prizes, while the runner-up will receive £ 1,050,000 ($ 1.8 million). This means that Kyrgios already has guaranteed, by far, the highest payday of his career.

Unfortunately for both men, no ATP ranking points are offered at the tournament following the All England Club’s controversial decision due to a ban on competing Russian players.

PURSUING HISTORY

Djokovic is betting on advancing Roger Federer to second place on the all-time senior men’s list, and narrowing the gap with Nadal (23) at the helm.

A victory for Djokovic would give him his seventh Wimbledon title, equaling William Renshaw and Pete Sampras in second place on the all-time list, just behind Federer (8).

Reaching his 32nd Grand Slam final, Djokovic sets a new all-time record ahead of Federer (31).

Kyrgios, Meanwhile, he is betting on becoming Australia’s first male Grand Slam champion in 20 years: Lleyton Hewitt won the Wimbledon title in 2002.

In 40th place, he would become the first Wimbledon individual champion in the lowest standings and the first without a seed since No. 125 Goran Ivanisevic won in 2001.

Kyrgios aspires to become the fifth Australian of the Open Era to win Wimbledon and the 13th in history.
