3 dead and at least 6 injured in a multi-car accident in Winnetka

WINNETKA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Three men were killed and at least six others were injured in a multi-car crash in Winnetka Sunday evening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

LAFD firefighters responded to the three-car crash on 19700 Island on Vanowen Street around 9 p.m.

Three people died at the scene, LAFD said. Six more patients suffered potentially serious injuries, but all were in stable condition. LAPD, however, listed a total of seven people injured.

LAFD said two men who died were 30 years old and the third man who died in the crash was 25 years old. Their names have not been published.

A home surveillance video captured the crash. The images showed a vehicle traveling at high speed turning into opposite lanes and crashing into two cars.

Andrew Neiman of the LAPD told Eyewitness News that a dark-colored Ford Explorer was traveling east through Vanowen and, due to its speed, the driver lost control when the car went through a bump in the road to Corbin Avenue.

“The speed limit is 35. So depending on the speed, the Explorer lost control, actually drove in the westbound traffic lanes and collided with a Toyota Tacoma truck with four occupants,” Neiman said. . “That caused the Ford Explorer to start tipping over. Then it collided with another vehicle, an Audi.”

Three of the four people in the Ford Explorer were expelled and died. The fourth person, the only one wearing a seat belt, survived the crash with minor injuries, Neiman said.

The four occupants of the truck were taken to a hospital with injuries deemed non-fatal. Two more people involved in the crash, a pregnant woman and her husband, were transported as a precaution, Neiman said.

No further details about the accident were available.
