Four people were killed in a shooting Sunday evening at a mall in Greenwood, Indiana, and two more people were taken to hospital with injuries, according to local police.
The shooter is among the four dead.
“It looks like a good Samaritan who was armed watched the ongoing shooting and shot the shooter,” Jim Ison, police chief of the Greenwood Police Department, said during a press conference. He noted that this individual, who has been identified as a 22-year-old man from Bartholomew County, is believed to have used a handgun.

The shooter had a rifle with “various” ammunition when he entered the dining area and started firing.
Several agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, responded and stayed at the scene to investigate.

When police begin prosecuting the crime scene, they are expected to remain in the mall until “early in the morning,” Ison added.
He had no answer as to whether the mall would reopen on Monday.
The motive for the shooting has not been identified.
