4 killed in Tulsa medical building shooting; dead shooter

TULSA, Oklahoma –

Four people were killed Wednesday in a shooting at a Tulsa medical building on a hospital campus, a police captain said.

Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief of Staff Eric Dalgleish confirmed the death toll and said the shooter was also dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is the latest in a wave of armed violence across the country.

It was not clear what caused the deadly assault. However, the unidentified gunman was carrying a pistol and a rifle during the attack, Dalgleish said.

“Officers are currently going through all the rooms in the building to see if there are any additional threats,” police said in a Facebook post shortly before 6 p.m. “We know there are multiple injuries and potentially multiple casualties.”

Police responded to the call three minutes after dispatchers received the report and contacted the gunman a minute later, Dalgleish said.

Police Chief Richard Meulenberg also said several people were injured and that the medical complex was a “catastrophic scene.”

Police and hospital officials said they were not prepared to identify the dead.

The health system of St. Francis closed its campus on Wednesday afternoon due to the situation in the Natalie medical building. The Natalie Building houses an outpatient surgery center and a breast health center.

Nicholas O’Brien, a resident of Tulsa, whose mother was in a nearby building when the shooting occurred, told reporters she rushed to the scene.

“They were taking people out in a hurry. I don’t know if any of them were injured or just got injured during the shooting, but some of them couldn’t walk very well. But they were just staggering and tripping and grabbing them. out there, “he said.

“I was pretty anxious. So once I got here and then I felt that she (her mother) was fine, that the shooter had been shot down and had been shot down, I felt so much better. It’s still horrible what happened “, O’Brien. dit.

Wednesday’s shooting comes eight days after an 18-year-old gunman armed with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, killed 19 children and two teachers before shooting himself and just over two. weeks after shooting at a Buffalo supermarket by a white man accused of killing 10 blacks in a racist attack. The last weekend of Memorial Day saw several mass shootings across the country, although incidents of a single death claimed the majority of gun deaths.

Officers from the Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also at the scene, a spokesman said. A reunion center was set up at a nearby high school so that families could find their loved ones.
