A Vancouver mother says her daughter was violently attacked by two strangers in Kitsilano in the early hours of Monday morning.
Mirella Gibeau’s daughter was walking near the intersection of Waterloo and West 10th streets around 3:30 a.m. when two masked men approached her, according to Vancouver Police Department spokesman Sergeant. Steve Addison said.
Police believe she was repeatedly hit in the face as they tried to rob her.
“She wasn’t doing anything wrong … taking care of her business,” Addison said.
After the attack, the victim did the right thing by arriving at a safe place and reporting the incident to police, Addison noted.
Police believe the men are about 20 years old, but cannot provide another description, as both sides were covered and it was a “blitz-style attack.”
The VPD has additional officers in the neighborhood who are stepping up patrols and there is an ongoing investigation.
Gibeau said on social media on Monday that his 30-year-old daughter received seven blows to the face by one of the attackers.
In a flash, Vancouver’s mother said, “We need to feel safe walking around our city. Point. Point.”
