A friend told The Sun: “This is well deserved for all the work Damian has done for so many people with so much done with little or no public fanfare.”

MailOnline has contacted Buckingham Palace representatives for comment.

In 2010, the award-winning actor, whose credits include Band of Brothers, Homeland and Wolf Hall, became a commercial justice ambassador for the charity Christian Aid.

Damian has also matched his work in solidarity with the sport, playing for England in Soccer Aid and for Europe in the All-Star Golf Cup.

Most recently, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Lewis and Peaky Blinders star Helen gave her support to the NHS Feed, a fundraiser that feeds food from street restaurants to NHS workers.

By April 2020, his efforts had raised £ 1 million for charity, with 40,000 meals a day provided to 100 hospitals.

The initiative started in London, but its great success led to plans to roll it out to other cities in the UK.

Last weekend, those who worked with Helen set aside the rain to show up en masse to celebrate her life in a “beautiful” memorial service.

Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Keeley Hawes were among those who packed St Paul’s Church in London’s Covent Garden, a year after Helen’s death from breast cancer at the age of 52.

Damian was photographed arriving with his children, his 15-year-old daughter Manon reading, and his 14-year-old son Gulliver playing the guitar.

A close friend said, “It was the most beautiful monument. It was very moving. Dumb. ‘

Helen was known for her roles as the evil Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies and as matriarch aunt Polly in Peaky Blinders, the last series of which paid tribute to her.

Damian, who married Helen in 2007, announced his death in a heartbreaking statement on social media in April last year.

Named OBE in the 2017 New Year’s honors for theater services, Helen was also an award-winning stage actress, working with the National Theater, the Almeida and the Donmar Warehouse and playing Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Globe.
