The Montreal Canadiens have signed Rem Pitlick for a two-year contract.
Pitlick had been a restricted free agent pending at the end of the season, but was not presented with a qualifying offer before the free agency. Instead, Kent Hughes bought himself time to weigh the decisions on his roster, and now signs Pitlick on a two-year deal with a $ 1.1 million limit after making a few other off-season moves.
Pitlick had 37 points in 2021-22, 26 of them with the Canadians following a mid-season claim to the Minnesota Wild exemptions, and at times seemed like one of the Canadians ’best players. That may say more about the team last year than the player, but there’s a lot to like about the Pitlick game. It will be a good lineup option for the team, at least through a stage of rebuilding the organization.
