Slack, the chat platform that serves as an online water cooler for many computers, is increasing its monthly price and changing the way its free plan works.
The company announced the changes through a blog post this afternoon.
Here’s what’s changing:
- If you pay for the “Pro” plan each month, the price will increase from $ 8 per user per month to $ 8.75 per user per month.
- If you pay for the “Pro” plan per year, the price will increase from $ 6.67 per user per month to $ 7.25 per user per month.
- If you are on the free plan, they are changing the form and duration of the messages. Previously, the free Slacks showed the last 10,000 messages and 5 GB of uploads. From now on, it will be based on time and not quantity, with Slack showing the last 90 days of messages / uploads regardless of how much or how little is sent.
(The above prices are for US users, but will increase worldwide; the graph of price changes in other countries is available here.)
Slack notes that price changes only affect “Pro” plan users, so Business + plan teams (which currently cost $ 12.50 or $ 15 per user per month) or custom business plans don’t look like them. be affected.
Slack says the price change, which he says is the “first price increase since [Slack] was first launched in 2014 ”: it will take effect on September 1, 2022. The publication of the company blog also states that you can block the existing price for an additional year by renewing it before September.
