Witnesses told Global News that Perry was being violently beaten with a 2 × 4 outside his home while viewers shouted for the suspect to stop. They immediately called 911 and chased him when he left.

“The suspect was not at the scene when police officers arrived. There are several factors that determined where the suspect was located, which also involved some help from community members,” Cst. Claude Chancy told Global News.

Police say this is a case of domestic violence.

“This was a very violent assault,” Cst. said Claude Chancy. “The amount of trauma that has been inflicted as a result of this event is immediate and far-reaching.”

Police also said there were drugs and alcohol in the assault.

Perry’s family told Global News that Robinson is his ex-partner and the father of the youngest of four children.

“He moved here, you know, to start over. Start over,” said cousin Chelsey Merasty-Moose. “It’s just heartbreaking … It’s so tragic. She was just a beautiful soul.”

Officers also added that there was prior involvement of the police.

“Domestic violence is often not a one-time event, and sometimes it heats up in what we have, as we did in this particular incident … the death and murder of a victim,” Chancy said. .
