Blaze Entertainment today announced the Evercade EXP, a new iteration of its original retro handheld.

The EXP includes a faster processor that the company says will deliver performance similar to the Evercade VS home console, a higher-resolution display, built-in WiFi, a new pair of L2 / R2 triggers, and Tate Mode buttons.

Tate Mode

Designed for arcade games with vertically oriented screens such as Burger Time, Centipede and Truxton, Tate Mode allows a player to hold the handheld in an upright position and still have the directional pad and two action buttons located below the screen.

Tate mode will be featured in a new Toaplan Arcade 1 cartridge that will be released along with the EXP, with any of the game’s developer games, including titles compatible with Tate Alcon (Slap Fight), Flying Shark, Tiger-Heli and Truxton.

The EXP will also come with the IREM Arcade 1 cartridge, which includes six games, including R-Type, In the Hunt and Moon Patrol.

It is scheduled for the winter of 2022 and will sell for £ 129.99 / $ 149.99 / € 149.99.

As part of the announcement, Blaze confirmed that the original Evercade laptop will be discontinued and that future cartridges are only guaranteed to work with the original Evercade laptops with firmware version 2.x or higher.

He also said he will expand the list of platforms the system can emulate next year. It currently includes arcade games, as well as consoles and laptops from various eras, from the Atari 2600 to the original PlayStation.
